KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - A tanker containing 3,000 gallons of deiseal fuel crashed Monday night, spilling much of its contents onto Cherry Street in East Knoxville.
The crash occurred near the Interstate 40 ramp, according to officials with the Knoxville Police Department. The tanker was unable to slow down when exiting the interstate and hopped a median, which caused the tanker to tip onto the driver side.
Cherry Street is closed at the entrance of the ramp to I-40 East until further notice, according to officials. While the spill poses no danger, officials are working to lower the environmental impact of it. Officials are not certain when the intersection will reopen.
No injuries have been reported.
This is an ongoing situation.
