PEORIA (WEEK) -- The Peoria Fire Department responded to an accident involving a semi truck and a passenger vehicle that resulted in a diesel fuel spill.
The incident occurred on Saturday at approximately 3 a.m. on 200 W. Martin Luther King Dr. and Kumpf Blvd.
The first arriving crew encountered about 100 gallons of fuel spilled onto the street and sidewalk as a result of a passenger vehicle colliding with a semi.
The passenger vehicle ruptured the passenger side fuel tank of the semi upon impact.
A light post and a hydrant was also severely damaged.
Due to the amount of fuel spilled, Hazardous Materials Technicians were dispatched to this location.
The technicians applied absorbent to the diesel spill in the street and surrounding sidewalks.
The Peoria Fire Department and Hazardous Materials Technicians prevented diesel fuel from entering and contaminating the storm drains by applying absorbent around the openings of the drains.
The spill was controlled at approximately 4 a.m., and the scene was turned over to the street department.
There are no known injuries to the driver of the semi truck.
However, the status of the driver of the passenger vehicle is unknown.
