An already promising Dallas Fuel lineup added another piece Tuesday.
The team announced the signing of support players Kwon “Fielder” Jun, a former Paris Eternal player, an ex-Houston Outlaw Kim “Rapel” Jun-keun, pending league approval.
Kwon joins a Dallas roster that already has two former Paris teammates -- and his former coach -- from the 2020 season. Rapel is now with a former rival.
The Fuel acquired head coach Yun “RUSH” Hee-won, tank player Choi “Hanbin” Han-been and damage star Kim “Sp9rk1e” Yeong-han in a trade with the Paris Eternal on Oct. 23.
Those three were reunited with their former Element Mystic Contenders teammates, Fuel damage star Kim “DoHa” Dongha and coach Kim “Yong” Yong-Jin. Rapel, who was a part of the successful Vancouver Titans team in 2019, is also an Element Mystic product.
The Fuel had three players and two coaches before the arrival of Fielder and Rapel. A source confirmed to The Dallas Morning News that two support players had been signed, and Fielder was announced as the first.
The Fuel’s support line in 2020 was capable, but inconsistent with William “Crimzo” Hernandez and Nolan “Paintbrush” Edwards as the starters at the end of the season, though Crimzo had a quality year and was an all-star. The new support staff will have high expectations from fans alongside a dynamic core of DoHa, Sp9rk1e and Hanbin.
Chemistry will be a must, as the Fuel lacked team camaraderie in 2020.
The Fuel now have five players and two coaches. The most obvious roles to fill now would be main tank, main support and a hitscan player for the DPS line.
Dallas dropped nine players on Oct. 18, retaining only DoHa. Now the Fuel have a formidable core and can soon focus on depth.
That’s a luxury Dallas hasn’t had in its three years in the Overwatch League.
