The Mitchell City Council will consider approving an engineer group on Tuesday to replace the fuel tanks at the city street shop.

During the 6 p.m. meeting on Tuesday at City Hall, the council will consider tabbing West Plains Engineering to install two fuel tanks at the street shop. According to City Engineer Joe Schroeder’s memo, a recent inspection conducted by the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources indicated the fuel tanks have been “deteriorating” and experiencing “solid material build up” at the bottom of the tanks.

The plan is to install a 15,000 gallon tank and 10,000 gallon tank. West Plains Engineering would be tasked with ensuring the project is designed and constructed to meet the DANR’s standards.

The council will consider approving the engineer firm to take on the fuel tank project at a cost of $23,700.
