(Aug. 1, 2021) Nantucket Memorial Airport ran out of Jet A fuel, the fuel used by large commercial carriers like JetBlue and larger private jets, Saturday afternoon.
The tarmac at Nantucket Memorial Airport Saturday afternoon was full of private jets and major commercial carriers, as it has been Friday-Monday for much of the summer.
Assistant airport manager Noah Karberg said Jet A fuel sales will resume Monday morning after the airport receives a new shipment from the mainland.
Jet A fuel is used by about a third of the aircraft that fly in and out of the airport, Karberg said. The airport has reserved enough Jet A fuel for medical flights, he added.
The remaining aircraft that use the airport, piston-engine planes like Cape Air's Cessna 402s and other small and medium-sized planes, use 100 low-lead fuel.
The airport does not currently have a shortage of 100 low-lead fuel, Karberg said.
