BURTON, MI - A semitruck leaked fuel onto I-69 near Burton after a Sunday morning crash, temporarily closing a stretch of the expressway, according to a news release from the Burton Police Department.
At roughly 10:50 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to a personal injury accident report at Eastbound I-69. They found a heavily damaged SUV and a “jackknifed” semitruck leaking fuel, according to the release.
Police found the SUV was traveling west when it crossed the grass west of the Belsay Road overpass and hit the semi-truck in the gas tank, according to the release. While the semi driver was uninjured, the SUV driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
Eastbound I-69 closed down temporarily at the Belsay Road exit while hazmat crews cleaned the fuel spill, according to the release. Police expect the expressway will reopen around 3 p.m. Sunday.
