A group of about 20 kayakers paddled up the Navesink River to stage a “kayaction” and call on Gov. Murphy to shut down the Southern Reliability Link pipeline and stop all new fossil fuel projects from moving forward in the state.
“Governor Murphy, if he really wants to be the greenest governor and cement his legacy as an environmental champion for the people of New Jersey, he needs to shut down this unnecessary and reckless project, (the SRL pipeline)” said Matt Smith, New Jersey State director for Food & Water Action. “We have to rapidly reduce our greenhouse gas emissions to fight the climate crisis.”

Smith added, "If he (the governor) wants to be a climate leader, he needs to stop all new fossil fuel projects from moving forward.”

The kayakers launched in Red Bank and a half mile upriver were encouraged by other demonstrators at Marine Park in a brief stop.

From that point, escorted by two safety boats, they made their way to a cove where the governor and his wife, Tammy, own a sprawling estate in an affluent neighborhood.
At first, there seemed to be a little uncertainty as to which of two houses belonged to the governor.
Unfurling a sign reading “Gov. Murphy Don’t Gas NJ!” at the first house brought no response.

When they floated next door, however, a man came from the property, walked down a ramp to the dock and ordered them to leave.

The group is ordered to "clear out." Michael Mancuso | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com
