INDIANAPOLIS (WPTA21) -- They could possibly meet in the playoffs, but odds are, the Fuel and Komets have played for the final time this season.
Monday night, the Fuel defended its home ice with a 5-2 win over the Komets. It was the 21st time the teams had played each other this year, part of an unbalanced scheduled, unique to the 2020-21 season.
Zach Pochiro scored the first goal of the night, giving the Komets a 1-0 lead midway through the first period. Indy then scored the next four goals of the game, taking a 4-1 advantage into the second intermission.
Marco Roy got the Komets a bit closer late in the third, but Indy responded with its final goal with 1:08 left to play.
The Komets and Fuel could potentially meet in the Kelly Cup Finals if both teams won their respective conference. Fort Wayne has already clinched a playoff spot, and the Fuel are currently third in the Eastern Conference.
The Komets wrap up the regular season with three games on the road at Utah on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday night.
