The U.S. in March sold more petroleum abroad than ever before, highlighting how exports are increasingly shaping the American oil-and-gas industry.
Foreign buyers hoovered up about 11.27 million barrels a day of U.S. crude and refined products for the month, according to the Energy Information Administration data out Wednesday. Crude exports also hit an all-time high: 4.8 million barrels a day.
That total is up twelve-fold since December 2015, when Washington nixed crude-export restrictions and allowed firms to funnel oil from the Permian Basin and elsewhere to the Gulf Coast, where Eiffel Tower-sized tankers carry supplies overseas.
