According to the Kazakh oil pipeline company, 6,900 tons of oil were shipped from the Kashagan field through the port of Aktau to the port of Baku by Kazakhstan’s INPEX North Caspian Sea, Ltd.

Hiroshi Ikeda, the director of INPEX’s branch in Kazakhstan, said the test shipment proved the feasibility of diversifying export routes for Kashagan oil by rail to the Trans-Caspian region.
Previously, Kazakhstan sold oil through Russia, which has repeatedly abused the partnership. For example, in March 2022, Russia blocked Kazakh oil exports to Europe to create panic. The official “reason” was damage to the oil terminal in Novorossiysk after a storm. Russia then stated that it would take up to two months to repair the damage and that Europe would face a shortage of oil as a result.
In June 2022, Russia suspended shipments of Kazakh oil from the port of Novorossiysk after Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated that his country would not recognize the puppet “people’s republics” of Donetsk and Luhansk.
