CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Clarksville Police Department and the City of Clarksville is holding the 2nd Annual FUEL the Bus on Saturday, August 8 from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Clarksville Downtown Market on Public Square.

The F.U.E.L. program provides food for children in need.  Many of the children who are returning to Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools rely on the meals they get at school for their main source of food each week.

Non-perishable, nutritional food items are provided for the children who are chosen by the teachers and that information is passed on to the FUEL Program.

Detective Samantha Kellett is coordinating the event for the police department and said the public is encouraged to bring non-perishable individually packaged food items to the Downtown Market.  FUEL the Bus will be set up in the parking lot in front of Mayor Joe Pitts office on Public Square with a Clarksville Transit System bus.

Kellett said some of the items recommended are small cereal boxes, pudding/fruit cups, meat sticks, packaged crackers, granola bars, pop tarts and juice boxes adding they cannot take perishable or bulk food items that are not individually packaged.  Monetary donations also cannot be accepted.

At the FUEL the Bus event there will be officers from the Clarksville Police Department with patrol cars for the public to interact with along with New York Life providing free child ID kits with a photo of the child, fingerprints, and medical information.

Kellett emphasized that COVID-19 safety precautions will be a top priority at the event for everyone who attends.  Everyone attending the Downtown Market is required to wear a mask and it will be the same for FUEL the Bus.

If you want to stop by and donate but don’t want to get out of your car, volunteers will be available with curb-side pick-up.  Also, if anyone wants to get inside one of the police vehicles on site to turn on the lights or the siren, the vehicles will be sanitized each time before another person is allowed inside.

For more information about FUEL the Bus on August 8 at the Downtown Market, call Detective Samantha Kellett at 931-648-0656 ext. 5643 or email Samantha.Kellett@cityofclarksville.com.
