GREENFIELD, INDIANA

John M. Fuel, 76, of Greenfield, Indiana, passed from this life Thursday, July 23, 2020 at his home.

Mr. Fuel was born in Columbus, Indiana, March 8, 1944, in Columbus, Indiana, the son of John N. and Carolyn Gillaspy Fuel.

On September 4, 1994, John married Judith K. Rautenkranz Smalley; she preceded him in death Mach 14, 1999.

Mr. Fuel was a 1962 graduate of Columbus High School . He worked in the office at Cummins Engine Company and later was an over-the-road truck driver for North American. He worked at WSVL Radio in Shelbyville where he was the host of the Sunday morning gospel program and was a disc jockey for WNTS Radio in Indianapolis.

Mr. Fuel was a member of First Christian Church, the Christian Men’s Chorus, the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA) and the American Legion Post 233 in Edinburgh.

Mr. Fuel loved music and some of his hobbies were listening to gospel music, Indy Car racing, NASCAR and following his favorite driver, Kyle Busch.

Mr. Fuel is survived by his son, John David (Michelle) Fuel of Shelbyville, Indiana; daughters, Natalie Sue (Jeff) Sumpter, Nichele Rae (Roger) Smith and Natrisha Lee Hitch; grandsons, Landon Tyler and Mason Reed Fuel both of Shelbyville; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and cousins and three nieces; and his former wife, Phyllis Fuel of Shelbyville.

Mr. Fuel was preceded in death by his father, John N. Fuel; his mother and stepfather, Carolyn and Eugene Speer; his wife, Judy; and a brother, Fred Speer.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Michael Smith officiating.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. We do ask visitors to follow the social distancing guidelines once inside the funeral home and masks are required.

Inurnment will be at Hartsville College Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice of charities.
